And now for something completely different.

Today’s prompt is to share “a YouTube video.” Again, another oddly specific request. However, I think it is fair to assume only that the question writer intended for us to share an online video of some kind. Thus I present to you “Bassoforte.” In this video, a broken piano and electric bass were fused together into a strange and new musical instrument.

Easter has always seemed to be something of an odd holiday to me. Children are made to dye hard-boiled eggs. Then someone hides the eggs and the children must hunt for them. Meanwhile, a magical rabbit brings baskets full of shredded green cellophane and mass-produced candies for the children to feast on.

From the theme of eggs and rabbits, one might be led to deduce that the holiday is a celebration of springtime and fertility. But there’s also the whole end of Lent and the memorial of Jesus’ execution and empty tomb. It’s all very confusing.

But imagine how confusing it must be to someone who doesn’t speak the language or even practice the religion. There is a story from a book by David Sedaris that’s become what I think of when I think of Easter. Here, he reads it aloud.

Sampled sound effects from the classic aci-fi action film Terminator 2 were reassembled together MOD style into this music video…

“Get down!”

Yesterday, I considered posting a video as the answer to “Favorite Animated Christmas Movie,” “Favorite Christmas Carol,” and “Least Favorite Christmas Carol.” The thing is, it would have been the same video each time, which would have not been amusing unless done enough times and with proper timing to become a running gag.

So, anyway, the video in question is called “Christmas Tauntauns” and was an entry into a Star Wars fan film contest some years ago. This video (I believe) was the favorite of George Lucas himself. I think it’s rather obvious why. And that, my feiends, is why “Christmas Tauntauns” is simultaneously (one of) my favorite holiday animated feature(s), (one of) my favorite Christmas carol(s), and also (one of) my least favorite Christmas carol(s).

P.S. I also find her teeth mildly unsettling.

If you’ve ever wondered what mock English sounds like, give this a listen. Seriously, it’s like a musical Lorem Ipsum. I think I can recognize the words “Tuesday,” “Maybe,” “Ice,” and “Oh, Sunday!” but that’s probably just pattern recognition.

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve been struck by an earworm of such ferocity that it’s tormented me for every waking moment for the past week. It makes me miss the days of being tormented by Science Fiction Picture Show. It’s the theme from My Name Is Bruce:

Guan-Di’s in your brain
Guan-Di’s making you insane
Guan-Di, Guan-Di, Guan-Di!

Because he could kill you with a tray if he so chose.

And now for something that doesn’t involve (much) singing or dancing. Like the little engine that could, or perhaps more like Monty Python’s Black Knight, Kintore-Z won’t let a missing limb or two keep him from finishing his workout… or winning the Baca Robocup, a Japanese competition celebrating absurd robotics.
