Where did July go? I seem to have missed out on it entirely. This makes me rather sad as Summer is now on its way out. Obviously so: all kinds of Back-to-School merchandise is emerging from the woodwork. I tried to find a beach umbrella a few days ago and found they’d been almost entirely displaced by Number Two pencils and protractors. I found a sporting goods store that had a few floor models left, but I instead opted for a floppy straw hat for sun protection.

So far, I’ve only made it to the beach once this summer. I’m not much of a surfer, and the ocean is usually much too cold for casual frolicking, but sitting at the beach and listening to the surf crashing is a great way to decompress and clear the mind. Or it would have been if I’d have left my phone in my car as I should have. Instead, I ended up focusing on e-mails and tweeting instead of fully relaxing.

I guess that means it’s almost time for another vacation. I’d like nothing more than to go somewhere quiet and tranquil for a weekend. That’s apparently not exciting enough for certain interested parties, who crave adventure (but nothing too strenuous, mind you.) I’m sure there’s a happy medium to be found somewhere, but darned if I know where.

I’m sure you’re all wondering where I’ve been.

Perhaps I… stowed away on the Space Shuttle!

What do you mean it hasn’t landed yet? Er…

Okay, I’ve been working on a (dramatic pause) secret project! In a secret location alongside the nation’s top men.

Yeah… that’s it… I’ve been doing inventory in a creepy old warehouse. A creepy warehouse full of dangerous historical artifacts.

You… You say you’ve heard that one before?

Okay, fine, the Director of Operations locked me in the basement.

To do inventory.

And I had to pretend that I was on the Space Shuttle.

It is time, once again, for Five on the Fifth, a challenge to share 5 photographs taken on the days leading up to the 5th of the month. This month, the suggested theme is “silver.”

With the best intentions, I brought my camera everywhere the past few days. For example, I brought it to the car wash.

This is sort of silver, isn’t it?

I went on a harbor cruise yesterday to watch the annual fireworks show. It was such a beautiful night, that even the captain had to remark upon how pleasant the weather was.

Sail Away

And then there was a lot of this stuff.

Still not silver, am I right? Very well, how about this?

silver

I think we have a winner.
