As I sit down to write this, polls have closed and votes are busily being tallied. The House has fallen to Republicans, and the Senate is almost evenly divided. Oddly enough, or perhaps not oddly at all, the race for California’s Senate seat is just as close. I wouldn’t be surprised if our incumbent Democrat takes the seat, since California is supposedly a blue state, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I were to learn that the challenger just barely won.
What does it mean to be so equally divided? Are we polarized beyond repair? Doomed to not only argue whether white is black, but to declare anyone with an opposite view to be an enemy?
Perhaps like Lokai and Bele, here, we’ll spend so much time fighting each other that we will miss our world crumbling into ruins.
